Manufacturing Systems Engineer I
87P, LLC is a market leader in food production specializing in healthy, fresh, clean-label, and plant-based products located in Carol Stream, IL. We provide full-service food processing and cold-pressed juice, tea, coffee and beverage solutions. The Manufacturing Systems Engineer I role is responsible for all manufacturing processes. This position will allow the right candidate to fulfill her or his entrepreneurial dreams within the context of a fast-paced food startup on the cutting edge of new fresh food development. Proven communication and teamwork skills are essential in this role, which operates in a dynamic and cross-functional environment. This position requires an individual to manage multiple assignments/ tasks concurrently with a high degree of autonomy.
Outline of responsibilities:
Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) of all manufacturing processes at 87p (processing and packaging).
Provide troubleshooting and guidance to operators and technicians
Track capacity analysis and reliability of manufacturing systems
Create process improvement plans based off of data gathered during operation
Provide technical support during system startups and new product commercialization
Work on new process designs and new equipment installation
Provide technical support to product development trial runs and sample production of new products.
Oversee initial full-scale production of new products.
Collaborates with operations to optimize processes and production for existing items within the limits of product specifications.
Manage the resources and budgets for projects and platforms
Meet aggressive timelines in a resource constrained environment
A successful engineer at 87p will have full working knowledge of the following areas at the 87p manufacturing facility:
Manufacturing utilities (water, steam, power, air, and all ancillary equipment involved in their use)
Plumbing/piping design and function
Process controls (PLC logic)
Mechanics and statics
Human factors and ergonomics
System reliability tracking
BS/MS degree in Industrial/Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering
1-3 years of experience
Strong heat transfer/thermodynamics skills
Strong process engineering skills
Have Knowledge of production processes, costs, quality control, raw materials and other methods for maximizing the efficient manufacture and distribution of goods.
General knowledge of machines and tools, their design, uses, repair and maintenance.
Ability to design and understand technical drawings, P&IDs, and other equipment/process schematics.
Knowledge of the ways various systems interact and how changes in operations, the environment, and other conditions will affect outcome
Strong communication and technical writing skills
Need intermediate knowledge of food manufacturing and processing capabilities
Willing to roll up their sleeves and get work done
Previous work experience in food manufacturing (preferred)
Must speak English; Spanish (preferred)
