Food Innovation and Product Development Specialist
87P, LLC is a market leader in food production specializing in healthy, fresh, clean-label, and plant-based concepts and products located in Carol Stream, IL. We provide full-service food processing and cold-pressed juice, tea, coffee and beverage solutions. The Food Innovation and Product Development Specialist role is responsible for taking a product from idea to shelf. This candidate must have a proven record of developing packaged food and beverage products for commercial use in the grocery or hospitality industry. This position will allow the right candidate to fulfill her or his entrepreneurial dreams within the context of a fast-paced food startup on the cutting edge of new fresh food development. This role works on innovation of new products and renovation of existing products. This role is responsible for the design and execution of product testing, analyzing data, drawing conclusions, documentation, communicating results, and product commercialization. Proven communication and teamwork skills are essential in this role, which operates in a dynamic and cross-functional environment. This position requires an individual to manage multiple assignments/ tasks concurrently with a high degree of autonomy.
Outline of responsibilities:
Perform functions to facilitate the development of new products and formulas as requested by customers and corporate teams.
Lead formulation of new products to be sure proper taste, nutritional value, and food safety & quality parameters are achieved.
Creates and edits formulas, batch cards, processing procedures, finished product specifications, and customer specifications.
Scale new products to match processing capabilities.
Lead trial runs and sample production of new products.
Oversee initial full-scale production of new products.
Collaborates with operations to optimize processes and production for existing items within the limits of product specifications.
Manage the resources and budgets for projects and platforms
Responsible for commercialization of new and reformulated products and successful transition from development to operations.
Actively participate in food safety programs that ensure the safety of ingredients and finished products.
Meet aggressive timelines in a resource constrained environment
Be able to pivot and re-prioritize the development pipeline as needs change
BS/MS degree in Food Science or related field
0-2 years' product development experience
Knowledge of Condiments, Sauces, Beverages, Spreads, Thermal pasteurization, and HPP technology
Works within FDA regulations in the development of acidified and hot fill foods
Strong communication and technical writing skills
Must be able to work cross functionally
Need intermediate knowledge of food manufacturing and processing capabilities
Willing to roll up their sleeves and get work done
Previous work experience in food manufacturing (preferred)
Must speak English; Spanish (preferred)
